Towada Lake & Oirase Gorge
Towada Lake is about an hour and a half drive from our place and in order to get to the Lake you drive up through the Oirase Gorge ( a lot like driving up Big Cottonwood Canyon). There is a trail that runs alongside the river from the bottom of the Gorge up to the Lake. It would probably be about a 4 hour hike if you went from the start of the trail to the Lake. We decided to park at the Lake and walk about a third of the hike. There were several different waterfalls that were really cool to see and the water was so beautiful. The wind was really blowing up on the lake that day, so no boats were out except the ferry. Tomorrow we will be heading up to the lake again to see another festival that is suppose to have so really cool floats. So we will let you know how it goes. And a little info about Towada Lake, it is a lake formed by a volcano which is pretty cool, and they had to add fish to the lake cause it initially did not have any.
